BURN SEQUELS

Tissue damage or destruction due to burns is the most serious wound a living creature can suffer.

This is why timely care and treatment methods in the first few hours after the wound are of great importance and a deciding factor on the health and life of the patients, as well as their prognosis and evolution.

The burns are treated according to their depth and percentage of body extension. It’s not the same to treat a burn, though deep, that’s only on a part or area like the arm or leg, than having a surface of over 40% of our body affected, even if it’s a superficial first or second degree.

In any of the above cases, immediate and appropriate attention will make a difference. In patients with large extensions of burn areas or electric burns, the first thing is to stabilize the patient from the moments the paramedics are caring for them and starting with intravenous liquids. Afterwards, they’ll be moved in an ambulance to a hospital unit.
This interval is the most important time for the patient’s family to contact me directly, and so, channeled and referred to me, I can personally coordinate my team and prepare the installations to await their arrival in the Emergency Room, and receive them with everything ready.

The first 2 to 4 hours after the burn wound are the most valuable to rescue and reanimate the patient with these wounds properly.

In remote areas, or areas outside of Guadalajara, we move the stabilized patient on an air ambulance.

After emergency attention at the Hospital, they’ll be moved to intensive care to be stabilized by the Boss of Unit and the Plastic Surgeon.

Once the patient is stable, the wounds must be cleaned to remove bacteria and foreign microorganisms where the first protection barrier of our body to the outside, the skin, has been compromised, to later plan the Tissue Reconstruction in due time.
